Four new members have joined the William Temple House Board of Directors this spring! Please join us in welcoming them. Read on to learn more about these awesome volunteers.

Judy Gibson

Judy Gibson is a longtime volunteer at the William Temple House Thrift Store and a former employee with expertise in retail management. In addition to volunteering at our thrift store, Judy has served with Meals on Wheels, the Senior Center in NW Portland, the Pearl District Neighborhood Association Board, Neighbors West-Northwest, the Board of Helping Orphans Worldwide, and With Love Oregon, a nonprofit that provides clothing and other essentials for young foster children. Originally from Hood River, Judy has lived in Portland since 1982 and have traveled extensively in SE Asia and Europe. When she is not volunteering or traveling, Judy loves theater, museums, art fashion and design, and good food.

 

Jeff Lang

Jeff Lang is the founder of Gales Creek Insuance Services, Community Energy Project, and Albina Opportunities Corporation. He currently owns a risk management consultancy. His civic and community service includes the City of Portland Combined Sewer Overflow Commission, the Board of North Portland Greenway, and Friends of Tryon Creek, which he chairs. Jeff brings deep roots with justice advocacy, which began with volunteering for Cesar Chavez and the National Farm Workers Association while in high school. Jeff lives in South Portland near the Willamette River and is grateful to live near nature and the calm, balance, and spiritual rejuvination it brings.

Jacquelene Lopez

Jacqy Lopez is a LPC intern, independent researcher, and William Temple House counseling intern alumna. She brings a decade of experience in clinical and social services settings to the Board. Jacqy’s recent work has focused on mental health and prevention science research, specifically on youth suicide, transition age foster youth, and on indigenous spirituality and mental health help-seeking of Filipinos in the United States. She is a recent graduate of the Applied Psychological Science and Healthcare Administration & Leadership master’s programs at Pacific University. Her passions include advocacting for culturally-sensitive mental health treatment, elevating BIPOC needs and voices, and advancing equity and inclusion.

Diana Akiyama

The Rt. Rev. Dr. Diana Akiyama is Bishop of Oregon in the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon and joins the William Temple House Board of Directors as an ex-officio member. Bishop Akiyama was the first Japanese-American woman ordained to the priesthood and is the first Asian American woman bishop in The Episcopal Church. Bishop Akiyama was born in Wheeler, Oregon and grew up in Hood River. Before returning to Oregon to serve as bishop earlier this year, she served as Vicar at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Kapaau, Hawai’i and as Dean at Waiolaihui’ia School of Formation for the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai’i.
