Happy April, Happy Spring

Around the world, the end of dismal winter weather coincides with a number of religious and cultural celebrations. For many people, spring is a time for rituals of balance and new beginnings. The ancient Babylonians celebrated their new year on the vernal (spring) equinox. Jews celebrate Passover, an 8-day festival commemorating freedom from slavery and the exodus from Egypt. This year, the Christian holiday of Easter coincides with Passover. Easter celebrates Jesus’s resurrection and the liberation of humanity through Christ.

This theme of freedom invites reflection. What makes us free? What does freedom look like in our world today? At William Temple House, we work with many people who are limited by food or housing insecurity, by depression or mental illness, or by discrimination and lack of opportunity. Sometimes it is difficult to see freedom in the world amid the suffering and injustices around us.

Freedom through Service

William Temple House was founded by members of the Episcopal Church and those values which inspired their vision and actions still carry through in our work every day. Our mission is to support people in need in our community, restoring hope, renewing strength, and honoring the intrinsic worth and dignity of every person we serve. For us, this is what freedom can look like.

Spring is here! Let us count our blessings, rejoicing in the rebirth of light and the emergence from a long winter. In this season of new life, let us recommit to supporting each other so we can break free from our adversities.
