Social Services William Temple House heals the whole person by providing food, clothing and emergency material assistance in addition to counseling and pastoral care services.
We believe it is critical for families to have their basic physical needs met. Focusing on long-term planning and solutions is difficult for people who are underclothed or underfed. We lend a hand up, not a hand out, so that families and individuals may maintain self-sufficiency while they get back on their feet.
Instead of distributing pre-packed bags of groceries, we provide a self-service shopping area where families can choose their own food. This allows people to take ownership of their meals and nutrition, while also supporting cultural diversity in the diet.
Clothing vouchers are ooccasionally provided for use at our William Temple House Thrift Store, located at 2230 NW Glisan Street. We also provide hygiene items, emergency dental care, psychotropic prescription medication vouchers, and public transportation tickets on a case-by-case basis.
