A charitable bequest is a gift through your last will and testament
to a charitable organization such as William Temple House.
Your estate planning advisor will be able to assist you in drawing up a will that successfully
carries out your final wishes. The sample bequest language below may be helpful to you and your
advisors as you consider a bequest to William Temple House.
Specific Bequest
A gift of a specific dollar amount or item of value.
Sample wording
"I give, bequeath, and devise (amount or item named) to William Temple House, whose legal name is Episcopal Mission Society, a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable institution located in Portland, Oregon, to be used for its general purposes.
Percentage Bequest
A gift of a certain percentage of your estate or of another asset.
Sample wording
"I give, bequeath, and devise (percentage of amount) to William Temple House, whose legal name is Episcopal Mission Society, a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable institution located in Portland, Oregon, to be used for its general purposes.
Residual Bequest
A gift of all or a portion of the remainder of the estate after other obligations or bequests have been distributed.
Sample wording
"I give, bequeath, and devise (all, or state percentage or shares) of the rest, residue, and remainder of property, both real and persona, wherever situated, which I may own or be entitled to at my death, to William Temple House, whose legal name is Episcopal Mission Society, a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable institution located in Portland, Oregon, to be used for its general purposes.
Beneficiary designations in a retirement plan or life insurance policy also are simple and meaningful ways to make a gift to William Temple House. These allow you to list William Temple House along with others as the beneficiary of such plans at the time of your death.
Ask your estate planning advisor if such a gift is practical in your circumstances. The administrator of your policy or plan can provide a beneficiary designation form if you wish to make this type of gift.
